I’ve been pretty busy of late and have had trouble finding a solid enough block of time to update the patch and also put together all the resources necessary to roll your own Filena translation.
If you’re interested in translating Filena into another language and and you want to start soon, please drop me a line and I’ll help you out if I can. (I can send you resources with some simple instructions/advice and answer questions.)
- Correct inconsistent skill/item names
- ページ text on load/save menu
- アイテム text header in battle
- In-battle AI setting screen (waived)
- General 8×8 check
- Correct all remaining bugs from beta test
- General dialogue edit
- Lighthouse warp text
- Item trader text
- Bad status description text
- Aurora Powder text
- Final credits adjustments
- 8×8 font replacement
- In-battle AI setting 8×8
- 8×8 headers
- Final beta test
Also I remembered to include the title screen this time.
Next patch estimate: not sure, but hopefully within this month.
Well, I said I would definitely do a release in January, and it’s still January in America.
I didn’t realise that February starts this weekend, so I didn’t finish everything I was planning for this release. So for better or worse, here’s what I’ve got so far.
This is 0.97. 0.98 will probably be out tomorrow if this horrid headache goes away.
Let me know if you spot any problems, I had no time for testing and I’m good at typos. (Also, I just realised I forgot to include the title screen.)

Remember how the scrolling intro text for Filena was garbled cavespeak since the beginning of time?
Yeah.

Thanks, Bongo`.
Oh, and the scrolling credits are nearly done as well. More than enough space to list the many names who had a hand in this project.

Good times.
I’ve been working on getting the Filena script as polished as I can in preparation for other language translations of Filena, as well as working on a page to collect all the resources and information necessary for a translation. However, I’d like to gauge people’s interest. I see there were a fair few downloads of the Japanese dialogue script, and I’d like to know if anyone’s been working on it at all. Basically, I’d just like to know if any interest has been generated, and whether anyone’s started or is preparing to translate the game into their own language. Please leave a comment and let me know which language you want to do if you are. (I’m not expecting a huge result, but this will affect how I implement the planned resource set.)
Are you interested in translating Eien no Filena into your own language?
On the final release of the translation, I plan to make all the necessary tools and information freely available here for download.
Since I’ve just gotten permission to make the dialogue compression tool available, I’m going to post the original Japanese dialogue scripts so that foreign translators can get a head start. The English scripts will be available after the final release of the translation, but I strongly recommend that any translator working on the game translate directly from the Japanese rather than translate my translation.
Anyway, please click here for the Japanese scripts. You’ll need a text editor capable of viewing EUC-JIS Japanese encoding. Other than that, all you need to know is that you can comment out Japanese lines with a semi-colon (;) at the start of the line.
It’s finally inserted, thanks to byuu’s help. What do you think?

Not much to report at the moment; I’ve been busy with professional work lately, but I’ve recently gotten byuu’s invaluable help in sorting out some of the last bits of technical work that needs doing, so hopefully we can make some good progress there. If you’re a percentage type of guy, I guess the current progress for the entire patch is something like 95%? The translation itself is pretty much done.
In the meantime, here’s Maegra’s great title screen logo design that we’re going to use:

Sorry for the radio silence. more news when there’s news to report.
All the missing text from Filena has been found, dumped and translated as far as I can tell. It wasn’t much text at all, but it was a sufficient amount to be an annoying gap.
To-do:
- Insert newly-dumped text
- Translate and insert small amount of unaccounted-for 8×8 text
- Replace title screen with Maegra’s edited screen
- Playthrough & script edit
1 and 4 are the main priorities, and if it looks like it’ll be a while before 2 and 3 can be taken care of, I’ll release a v0.95 patch first with the full dialogue translation, then take care of the extra stuff in a follow-up.
EDIT: There are also a few bits of uncompressed text floating around the ROM that needs taking care of which I forgot about. These can basically be translated in about a half hour once the technical issues are sorted out.
