Can’t get past the first coliseum battle in Filena? Can’t use Flying Ripper?

Some people have been reporting you start out at a lower level than you’re supposed to, and thus don’t even have enough TP to use Flying Ripper in the intro, much less beat the first coliseum battle.

My guesses are the following:
- There were two versions of the ROM released, one of which is not compatible with the translation.
- There are corrupt ROMs floating around.
- Someone has added a trainer or something to the ROM and the initial XP or other value has been set to 0.

In the event that the game is ridiculously hard and you suffer from the above problems, please try getting the ROM from a different source. Additionally, please try it without the translation patch and see if it works fine before applying the patch. (If that’s the case I want to know about it.)

I’ve been pretty busy of late and have had trouble finding a solid enough block of time to update the patch and also put together all the resources necessary to roll your own Filena translation.

Eternal Filena v0.97

Well, I said I would definitely do a release in January, and it’s still January in America.

I didn’t realise that February starts this weekend, so I didn’t finish everything I was planning for this release. So for better or worse, here’s what I’ve got so far.

This is 0.97. 0.98 will probably be out tomorrow if this horrid headache goes away. :)

Let me know if you spot any problems, I had no time for testing and I’m good at typos. (Also, I just realised I forgot to include the title screen.)

Recent activities

Hi, it’s been a long time since I last gave an update. Well, I’ve been quite busy with work and recovering from work lately, so I don’t have anything very exciting like a completed script to announce. However, I have been helping Stealth Translations out a bit with the script for The Legend of Double Moon and the manual for FEDA. Early days for The Legend of Double Moon still, but I’ll update again once I make some more progress.

First draft of the Hourai dialogue script is done. Didn’t take too long — minus the days I wasn’t actually working on it, I’d say it took between a week and a half to two weeks.

This calls for some happy music!

I also have an old translated dump of the non-dialogue script that was translated back in the day by Akujin, so technically this is the first time in years that Hourai’s had a complete English script (to the best of my knowledge). However, I’m planning to translate the non-dialogue stuff anew from a fresh dump. I decided I might as well finish what I started, and besides, I don’t know if I have permission to use Akujin’s text. No problem, though, by this point I kind of want the English script to be all my own work anyway.

Hourai Death March 2000

Nearly finished with the last of the big three files. This one is about half plot, then half check descriptions and miscellaneous text not associated with any particular event. This is the drawback of Hourai’s script organisation — all the check text is in one place, so you have a bunch of “The book says…”, “There’s a picture of…”, “It looks like a…” descriptions to plough through. Boring. It’s like I got fat on pudding first and decided I didn’t want my vegetables any more.

After that is some more miscellaneous text in about three other files, totalling about half the size of one the big files. Then comes the small font/non-dialogue stuff.
